Volunteers Needed

Westland DTE Energy Farm

Work hours: Mondays, 9:00-12:00, beginning April 10, 2017

Additional days will be added in the future.

– The DTE Energy Farm has gone through some changes this spring. After seven wonderful years, we are no longer connected with Gleaners Food Bank. However, the DTE Training Center has generously allowed our volunteer group to continue growing produce on their property, along with giving us financial help. We are very grateful for this.

– We have downsized a bit until we get up on our feet again. We may not have as many large groups visiting the farm now, so we are in need of more local volunteers.

– The DTE Energy Farm provides fresh produce to local food banks.

– Volunteers assist in seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, hauling compost and mulch, and other gardening tasks.

Keep in mind that activities may be cancelled due to bad weather.

– In the process of growing healthy plants, we try to educate our volunteers by using raised beds, cover crops, crop rotation, integrated pest management, native pollinator plant beds, and organic methods.

The Farm is located behind the DTE Training Center

38155 Cherry Hill Road, Westland
